Marie-Louise Wöhrle is a Visiting Fellow at the CSSM in the spring 2025.

I am an anthropologist interested in infectious diseases, parasites, and ecosystems; and the multi-species relations emerging between nature conservation and public health.

I am currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Edinburgh (UK). In my doctoral research, I work with several conservation charities around the UK and internationally; investigating institutional and individual conservationists’ responses to infectious risk and biosecurity measures in Scotland, and exploring the understandings of nature, ecosystems, and disease that emerge from current practices and research.
I also dabble in some science and technology studies occasionally; I am interested in the co-constitution of medical and environmental knowledge within ecology and conservation. I am particularly interested in parasite conservation as an emergent field of research and advocacy. I think it’s exciting to consider the ways different notions of parasites, microbes, and invasive species affect understandings of ecosystems and health; and the potential impacts this may have for future conservation work.
